ATRA Certified Technicians
ATRA is a nationally recognized association that encourages technical competency and a high standard of professionalism in the automatic transmission repair industry. ATRA Certified logo displayed on an ATRA Shop means there are ATRA Certified technicians that have passed tough industry tests to verify their technical knowledge. ATRA certified technicians must be retested every five years.

ATRA - the Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association - is an international trade association for the professional automatic transmission repair industry. With members across the US and Canada, ATRA's network of automatic transmission repair professionals can offer you repair and warranty coverage anywhere you are likely to drive. With nearly 2000 members, ATRA is larger than every automatic transmission repair chain combined - nearly three times the size of the largest chain in the US. The Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) is part of the California Department of Consumer Affairs. BAR has statutory oversight responsibilities for several statewide licensing programs, including the Smog Check and the Lamp and Brake Certification programs. BAR licenses and regulates more than 35,000 California automotive repair dealers, nearly 2,000 lamp and brake stations, more than 7,500 Smog Check stations, nearly 4,000 lamp and brake technicians, and more than 16,000 Smog Check technicians.

National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence
The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence was esablished in the early 1970's and the organization's mission is to improve the quality of vehicle repair and service through the testing and certification of auto repair and service professionals. The institue works in every segment of the automotive industry: car and truck dealerships, independant auto repair garages, fleets, service stations, franchises, and more. Each member is required to take one or more of ASE's 40+ exams that are grouped into specialties for automobile, medium/heavy truck, truck equipment, parts specialists, collision repair technicians, and collision damage estimators. Only upon passing at least one exam and providing proof of two years or relevant work experience can a auto repair shop become certified. Furthermore, ASE certified affiliates must be retested every five years.
The Transmission Rebuilders Network
The Transmission Rebuilders Network is a world-wide network of over 1,000 actual transmission technicians, interacting on problems, fixes, diagnosis, hydraulics, functions, bench techniques, part locating & reviewing, homemade tools, assembly tips, and installation tips for the transmission repair industry. TRNI members share knowledge, experience, and advice on the science of rebuilding automatic transmissions and the art of managing a transmission shop.
